Comments
First, a big apology to those whose run was spoiled by the theft of the two controls at the southwest corner of the map. We replaced these as quickly as we could, but twenty competitors on Trot and eight on Run lost time looking in vain. Clearly, some of Furzton's finest hadn't been told that National Antisocial Behaviour Week finished on Friday. The results show who was affected; please subtract off the time you lost, and award yourself your rightful place!
Apart from that the courses seemed to work well. This was my first time as Planner, and I was pleased that people seemed to enjoy the mesmerising hedges at the start of the Run.
The pleasant weather brought out a good attendance, with 182 people taking part. The range was impressive, from toddlers to very classy orienteers, from first-timers to one distinguished competitor who was notching up event number 3,150. One of the challenges of Keyne-O is to deliver the standards expected by regular orienteers while providing a simple and friendly introduction to newcomers. Stolen controls aside, and subject to the limitations of pin-punching, today seemed to work, but click on our names below to pass on other thoughts about what we could have done better.
Many thanks to those who helped us to get today right: particularly Steve for showing me how the planner's job should be done; Dave and Ric for their invaluable running of the start/finish table; Wendy for management of entries; and of course Will and Carys.
Two items of lost property: one compass (Moscompass Universe), and Matthew Douse's Keyne-O Collector Card. These will be available at the start at Campbell Park, or email us if you would like them back sooner.
Finally, thank you to those who gave back their maps for recycling. Let us know if you would like us to send you a copy.

Keyne-O Keynie Volunteers
With the gratifying increase in numbers competing in Keyne-O events we now require a rather larger team of volunteers to run these events than we used to. In the early days two or three of us could run the events easily but these days we need at least six people to ensure the event runs smoothly and the team aren't overworked. We are keen to recruit some more volunteers to spread the load, so if you could spare some time before or after your run to help out that would be great. There are plenty of jobs that don't require any orienteering experience and full training will be available. If all our Keyne-O regulars could volunteer once or twice a season we would have plenty of help and wouldn't be relying on the current small pool of volunteers.
If you can help out please email Steve. We will also be recruiting at future Keyne-O Events.
Next event
If you enjoyed this event then why not come along to our next event on September 11th at Campbell Park. Details will be on our events page soon.
If you are new to orienteering it is free to join SMOC as a Local member for the first year. Download a membership form here.
