Brogborough

18thMay 2008

The first event in a series of informal Orienteering events to run throughout the Summer 2008 suitable for both beginners and more experienced orienteers and runners.

If you haven't tried orienteering before someone will be available to explain the basics and point you in the right direction. No special equipment is needed and just wear what you would for a walk (or run) in the countryside - full leg cover is necessary.

Note that with the recent rain and warm weather, undergrowth is springing up fast – shorts are not suitable for the medium or long course, full leg cover is necessary.

Starts: From 10:00 to 12:00

Courses Close at 13:00

Courses:

Short and easy: About 1.7km: Very Straightforward, Suitable for complete novices whatever their level of fitness. Younger competitors with a little experience should be able to complete this course on their own. Start here if you have never orienteered before; there will still be time to do a longer course. 1:5,000 pre-marked map. Yellow standard.

Medium: About 4.3km: Still Straightforward. Suitable for adult beginners and those with a little experience who want to go a bit further. Also good for more experienced orienteers who want a run or walk that isn't too demanding. 1:10,000 pre-marked map. Orange standard.

Long: About 7km: Suitable for experienced orienteers who want a run with some orienteering included. Will include some trickier controls. Also for fit beginners who want a Sunday run with a difference. 1:10,000 pre-marked map. Blue standard.

Beginners should note that course lengths are the straight line distance between controls. As a straight line is rarely the best or easiest way between controls actual distances covered will be significantly further.

Entry fee: £2

If you complete a course we will swap the map so you can do another course at no extra cost.

Other Information:

Traditional orienteering banners, punches and control cards will be used. Maps will be overprinted and bagged.
