The third in our series of informal orienteering events suitable for beginners, more experienced orienteers and runners. The courses explore an extensive park area featuring Roman remains, a mediaeval abbey and the iconic concrete cows.
If you havenít tried orienteering before, someone will be available to explain the basics and point you in the right direction.
Entry is on the day so no need to pre-enter. No special equipment is needed - just wear whatever you would for a walk or run in the park.
Very straightforward. Suitable for complete novices, whatever their level of fitness. Does not cross any roads.
Suitable for adult beginners and those with a little experience who want to go a bit further. Also good for more experienced orienteers who want a run or walk that isn't too demanding. There is no need to cross any roads. However, some route choices may involve crossing minor estate roads.
A longer course that is an extensive tour of the area, only suitable for fit and reasonably experienced orienteers. All competitors on this course must be aged 16 or over (unless accompanied by an adult), as routes will include numerous estate road crossings.
Controls are mini-kites with pin punches. The map is A4 in size and printed on waterproof paper. The map scale is 1:7,500 for all courses. We will be using electronic timing to determine your run time but you must still use pin punches to record visits to controls.
Starts from 10.00 to 12.00 for Amble and Trot, 10:00 to 11:30 for Run. Courses close 13:00.
At the City Discovery Centre, Bradwell Abbey (MK13 9AP)
There will be toilets available close to registration.
Well-behaved dogs are permitted. Please keep them on a lead.
In case of extreme weather on the day of the event please check the event is still on at www.smoc.info
The popular Keyne-O Collector Cards are again available this year. Each Keyne-O run earns you a sticker. Collect stickers to earn prizes, certificates, medals and diplomas.
As always our events can't take place without our volunteers. The first 6 signed up SMOC helpers will get free entry so email the organiser now to secure your free run.
